Firefighters tackle pallet blaze

About 150 firefighters have tackled a huge blaze at an industrial estate in a Leicestershire village.

The fire broke out on the Willow Industrial Estate in Castle Donington on Monday night.

It started at the Birch Mead Pallets firm, and spread to three nearby industrial units as well as overhead power cables.

Police said it was not being treated as suspious. Road closures caused traffic problems into Tuesday afternoon.

One firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion, but there were no other injuries.

Some residents of nearby villages reported power cuts but these were resolved within hours.

Four acres of land were affected and the flames could be seen for several miles.
